What is Data Discovery?

There are four(4) steps towards advanced analytics and data discovery is the first. It describes the process for collecting data from various sources and helps analyst in harnessing any data to inform critical decision making. Data discovery processes allows for the conversion of unclean, messy and scattered data to insights usable for business consumption.

Data discovery can therefore be referred to the collection and analysis of data, unearthed to gain insight from hidden patterns and trends.

The process of extracting usable data from a larger set of any raw data using one or more software is known as Knowledge Discovery in Data (KDD) and also referred to as Data Mining.

With data discovery, you are able to unlock essential information within unstructured and structured data into insights and also visualize outcomes on analysis for further consumption by its users.

Data is versatile and often contains information that can be used in several different analyses, hence the ability to scale across various teams and accelerating the data governance method of providing all users with a single source of truth.
